Winter Beauty Favourites!

This winter I am loving makeup products with cream textures, intense colour, matte finishes and skincare products to boost your skin's hydration.

From left to right:
  1. Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activator 30ml, $88
  2. Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 504 Ecstasy, $49
  3. Dior Cream Blush in 871 Bikini, $53
  4. YSL Cream Blush in 7 Rose Quartz, $66
  5. Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Gel Shadow in 40 Tenacious Teal and 45 Bold Gold, $11.95
I appreciate Lancôme's Génifique Youth Activator more than ever during winter because it's lightweight formula keeps my skin really soft and hydrated in the tough winter conditions.

I mainly use it for 3 purposes:
  1. I blend my foundation with a drop of Génifique for a smoother application onto the complexion (with my foundation brush) and it also gives a more dewy finish.
  2. At night before bed, I apply it before my facial moisturiser to boost my skincare routine. Génifique reactivates the youth proteins in your skin to keep it soft, plump and I'm hoping it will also keep the wrinkles away!
  3. I also use it to prep my lips before applying lipstick - it instantly absorbs into the skin and makes my lips smooth and soft.
Adding a drop of Génifique with Lancôme's Teint Miracle foundation for a radiant complexion and added skincare benefits!

Matte and intense lip colours really work well for Winter compared to Summer where you're more likely to keep your makeup more fresh and simple.

My current favourite is Giorgio Armani's Lip Maestro 504, a beautiful raspberry shade. It's highly pigmented meaning a little goes a long way and unlike traditional glosses it has a matte finish (vs. shiny) and isn't sticky at all.

Sleek and luxurious packaging and applicator.

Swatch of Lip Maestro 504.

Pretty Giorgio Armani raspberry lips!

Cream Blushes
This winter I finally tried cream blushes and loved it! Both the YSL and Dior cream blushes have a soft texture which dries to a powder finish. The main difference between cream and powder blushes is that the cream formula gives a more radiant and dewy finish vs. powder. It is also great for those who have dry skin.

Swatches of YSL Cream Blush in 7 Rose Quartz & Dior Cream Blush in 871 Bikini

You can apply cream blushes with your fingertips or with a brush. I use my fingertips as I find it works better to melt the product onto the skin. Using my ring finger I lightly tap the product across my cheekbones and in circular motions blend it from the apple of my cheeks and upwards towards the hairline.

Application of Dior's Cream Blush in Bikini - light and dewy finish.

Cream eyeshadows
I finally tried Maybelline's Color Tattoo eyeshadows and it's definitely worth the hype! I love its long wearing formula and intense colours. They're really easy to apply with your fingertips and I currently use the gold one as a eye primer/base for a smokey brown eye look and the teal one as a gel eyeliner for the upper lash line.

Swatches of Maybelline's Color Tattoo eyeshadows: 40 Tenacious Teal (top) and 45 Bold Gold (bottom).

Gradient Nails: Pink & Gold Glitter

Naturally my love of glitter has lead me down the path to teach myself how to master the gradient glitter nail trendSo I would love to share with you a really easy to to create them.

  • 1 x base nail polish shade - I used a light pink by OPI called 'Sweet Memories'
  • 1 x fine gold glitter nail polish - I found a really cheap one at Daiso called Nail Brights in shade 8
  • 1 x chunky gold glitter nail polish - I used China Glaze's 'Blonde Bombshell'
  • 1 x top coat nail polish - my favourite right now is Dior's Gel Coat, opposed to a normal top coat its gel-like formula creates a shellac looking finish to the nails (super shiny!)

So you may be asking what the difference between a fine (left) vs. chunky glitter (right) is and the below image hopefully explains it:

STEP 1: Paint your nails with at least 2 coats of a base colour and let it dry.

Apply the fine glitter polish on the tips of your nails - try and only paint 1/3 of your nail. You don't need to be particularly neat at this stage as we will apply the chunky glitter on top next after this coat dries.

Apply the chunky glitter nail polish on top starting from the middle of your nail. As we are applying it above the fine glitter nail layer this will create the gradient effect.

Your nails should now look super pretty and like this:

Apply a top coat to seal in the glitter, create shine and hopefully avoid chipped nails!

Thanks for letting me share my latest nail obsession with you!

My Top 5 Mascaras!

I could definitely not live without mascara. It coats your lashes to make them longer, more voluminous and curled - end result is beautiful and enhanced eyes. I have recommended the below mascaras based on the formula, brush/wand applicator and of course results!

1. Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes ($52)
2. Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl ($52)
3. Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill ($55)
4. Shiseido Japan Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel* (best seller in Asia - approx $25 AUD)
5. Maybelline Falsies Volum' Express ($19.25)

I would reconsider buying all of the above but to help you choose I have tried to highlight their best features!

Best for volume - Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes. As the name suggests it gives you incredible volume for 'doll like' lashes in just one coat!

Best for curled lashes - the newest Dior mascara Diorshow Iconic Overcurl will do the trick. Its curved brush lifts the lashes and the formula holds your curled lashes all day.

Natural looking lashes - Giorgio Armani's Eyes to Kill formula allows you to custom build the volume of your lashes. It has extended play time allowing you to build coats of mascara on your lashes without clumping or creating an undesired spidery look. One coat - natural, two coats - volume, three coats - dramatic volume!

Best for short or thin lashes - Shiseido Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel* is an Asian specific product developed to specifically address this concern. Its comb brush (which takes time to get used to) literally coats and defines every single eyelash creating instant length. This mascara also has a lot of staying power as it developed for Asian countries which experience high humidity so it doesn't smudge at all during the day.

Best packaging and brush - Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes is really easy to hold with its contoured design and the cone shaped brush makes application super easy as it is able to reach the smaller corner lashes and bottom lashes without leaving a mess behind.

Cheapest best! - goes to Maybelline Falsies. It's the best mascara I have found which creates amazing false lash volume, has a flexible applicator wand and would be the best dupe for Lancôme's Hypnose Doll Eyes.

Best smelling - mascaras are known to smell a bit strange so I thought I would mention that Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes smells like roses :)

* Please note: the Shiseido Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel has given to me as a gift when my friend travelled to Malaysia recently so it is definitely worth buying if you're going over to Asia for a trip or you could try and find it online.

Thanks for letting me share my Top 5 Mascaras with you! :)

Please leave me any comments, suggestions of other mascaras to try or feedback.

Birthday + April Haul

I have finally moved back home to Sydney just in time for my birthday! I just wanted to firstly share some photos of the birthday brunch my boyfriend Sol Towers took me out for at The Grounds in Alexandria. Food, staff and atmosphere is amazing here - so good that I ate the feta and avocado on my breakfast board and that is a great achievement as I absolutely hate cheese and avocado!

Amazing coffee & food! We ordered a breakfast board each - highly recommended.
But more importantly, I also wanted to post up a few key additions to my wardrobe - clothes, accessories & nail polishes!

As you could probably see from my birthday brunch outfit I am very much still obsessed with fuchsia/purple/pink hues. So it didn't surprise me that I had managed to accumulate the below in April:

Blouse from Sheinside* | Therapy flats in Raspberry | Ladakh top | Marc by Marc Jacobs Wallet in Rock Lobster

*Please note is based in China so shipping takes a long time (+4 weeks) but it does have really affordable fashion. I am also unsure how the return policy would work so it may be risky to order if you are unsure of sizing.

Lancôme Rouge in Love lipstick in 377N Midnight Rose | OPI in Miami Beet | China Glaze in Make an Entrance | Essie in Not Now & Hot Spot

OPI Disney Vintage Minnie Minis Collection - super cute!
Shade names from left to right: The color of minnie, If you moust you moust, I'm all ears and Rapidry top coat (a birthday gift from my best friend Heidi)

Monochrome also making a comeback into my wardrobe. I bought myself Peep toe lace flats for my birthday from their outlet store in Birkenhead Point for only $89 (reduced from $179) and you can still shop sale items online here. I bought a work dress from boohoo, a nice fitted faux leather detailed dress from mink and this month I discovered Dior's new mascara Diorshow Iconic Overcurl and its amazing partner Diorshow Lash Maximiser.

Lace flats from Peep toe

Amazing lash duo for longer, more voluminous and curled lashes:
Dior Diorshow Lash Maximiser $52 | New Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl $52

I have also always been a gold jewellery person so I bought this gold bracelet from Peep toe & chain collar tips from Boohoo (which I am yet to try on a collared shirt). Naturally my love of gold also extends to nail polishes this month!

Peep toe pentagon statement bracelet

boohoo Gold Chain Link Collar Tips

Gold rush: Chi Chi Salon Formula in Kim Wannabe Hilton | China Glaze in Blonde Bombshell | Nail Brights in Gold from Daiso (only $2.80!)

Thank you for letting me share my birthday and April buys with you!

When beauty meets fashion - zimmerman x lashes & fuchsia nails!

I was inspired by my blue zimmerman silk maxi dress I bought at the recent warehouse sale in South Yarra, VIC. I fell in love with its bright colour and design - I have never been able to pull off a maxi dress due to my height but this one was the perfect length! :)

Love the one shouldered design and the draping of the silk at the bottom of the zimmerman dress. Also wearing my favourite champagne sequin heels from Wittner.

Now for the beauty section! As this dress was very bright I decided to compliment it with neutral tones for the eyelids, soft pink lips, an emphasis on the lashes with a pop of fuchsia for the nails.

Star product: Ardell Demi Wispies False Lashes around $9 a pair. I love them because they are natural looking in the way each lash is arranged, have an invisible band and you can get a couple of wears out of them. Highly recommend these! I bought mine at Hairhouse Warehouse.

Pop nails: YSL Nail Varnish in Rose Futurista 11 $39

Complexion: Lancôme Teint Miracle Foundation in 03 $50,  Lancôme Effacernes Concealer 02 $52 & YSL Touche Eclat 02 $55.

I highly recommend Liner Plume by Lancôme $42, I use to have a lot of difficulties creating that perfect wing and this product makes it super easy. It has a brush like tip which you can create really thin or thick lines with, easy to hold grip (I hold it like a pen) and never smudges! YSL's nail varnishes are also amazing - only two coats needed and it won't chip for over 2 weeks which is long in my standards.

(minus the Ardell lashes I was wearing at the time of the photo)

Eyelid Primer:  MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Base: Urban Decay 'Virgin' (1st eyeshadow pan) in the Naked 1 Palette
Liner: Lancôme Liner Plume
Eyelash curler: Shu Uemura
False Lashes: Ardell Demi Wispies + Duo Adhesive Glue + Disposable mascara wand to brush the natural and false lashes together
Lower lash line: MAC Mineralise Eyeshadow Quad in Assemblage - silver for the inner corner and brown for the outer edge
Brows: Lancôme Brow Kit

Thank you for letting me share my new maxi dress and matching makeup look with you.
